The XXXIV edition of the Agroexpo International Fair, which started the 2nd of March and took place at the Institución Ferial de Extremadura and attracted more than 32,000 visitors, came to an end on Saturday. Fortunately, this year it has been possible to hold it in person, unlike last year due to the pandemic the event had to resort to online meetings. A contest that began under the shadow of the pandemic, but that resolved to regain the greatest possible amount of participation for its celebration. The effective and precise management of weeds in crop fields is becoming more complex and costlier. However, society and European institutions demand a more effective and sustainable management. Therefore, current production systems should be profoundly modified, incorporating new technological and agronomic tools that allow minimizing herbicide consumption and land tillage, maximizing farmer benefit. In the light of this context Agrosap attended the Agroexpo with its own stand so as to spread the latest breakthroughs achieved through the international consortium of DACWEED. This top-of-the line project aims at site-specific weed management in real time (online) application of herbicides in a universal manner in terms of hardware and software. To accomplish this, a weed detection system based on neural networks was created, with proper classification levels above 95 percent accuracy for the majority of the species present. In the detection and discriminating of weed species, the detection and actuation set achieved accuracy values ranging from 77% to 98 percent.
